Assassin's Creed Unveils Unexpected AoT Crossover for Holiday Season
In a unexpected partnership that breaks traditional forecasts, Ubisoft has revealed an virtual crossover between Assassin's Creed Shadows and the popular anime series Attack on Titan. The unexpected holiday event runs from November 25 through December 22, including free bonus story content for Shadows players.
Strange Mission Disclosed
According to the authorized statement, "A mysterious meeting pulls protagonists Naoe and Yasuke into a fresh adventure, where hints of banned ceremonies and fearsome metamorphoses echo through the obscurity." The storyline features a "unusually attired woman named Ada" who assigns the pair with traveling into the Gemstone Grotto—a significant location from Attack on Titan—to save her friend from a hidden sect.
The adventure focuses on "bizarre tests and a monstrous enemy" and is open to all players who have gained access to the Yasuke character.
Iconic Settings and Transformations
The preview showcases the Subterranean Sanctuary from Attack on Titan redesigned as the Crystal Cave. This historic location was previously where the Reiss royal family handed down the Founding Titan ability through ages. The teaser ends with a powerful scene showing a character, presumably the captive, changing into a Titan that looms over Naoe and Yasuke.
Unique Rewards and Bonus Content
Players who finish the mission will obtain an unique katana alongside multiple objects secreted throughout the area in secret chests. The update also features in-store Attack on Titan item packs, featuring:
- Titan-inspired costume for Yasuke
- Mikasa attire for Naoe
- Special arms
- Survey Corps steed
Latest Free Story Update
This patch also introduces the game's latest free story addition, titled "The Enigma." This lighthearted quest pairs Naoe and Yasuke as they trade characteristic skills: Naoe reveals a dramatic version of Yasuke's war kick, while Yasuke acquires subduing stealth takedowns. True to its name, "The Mystery" also includes a new environmental puzzle that may ultimately explain some lingering questions from the main storyline.
Past Japanese Animation Crossovers
This represents hardly the primary time the Assassin's Creed franchise has collaborated with popular anime series. The series previously included a 2020 crossover story linking Assassin's Creed: Valhalla with Makoto Yukimura's Vinland Saga. Additionally, Valhalla informally featured a quest that clearly nodded to the famous series One-Punch Man.
