Around fifty automobiles have been smeared with what appears to be human blood in the German municipality of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, police confirm authorities.
Vehicles, building surfaces and postal boxes were defaced, in some cases with Nazi symbols, they announced in a release.
Police report they were alerted during the night on Wednesday night, when a man noticed that a automobile in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been marked with a reddish liquid.
The substance had been placed in the pattern of a Nazi symbol, they reported.
Officers then located numerous other marked automobiles and house walls in the surrounding area.
Swastikas are banned in Germany under legislation banning the public exhibition of symbols from the Nazi era.
Police report early analysis indicate the liquid was probably human bodily fluid.
"At present there remains no indication as to where it came from; officials are presently not cognizant of any physical harm in association with the occurrence," they stated.
City officials announced they were working "to unravel the case" and have appealed to the community for tips.
A high-ranking official commented the attack rendered him without words and needed to be addressed promptly.
"This act strikes at the center of Hanau and reopens the trauma of the extremist attack half a decade ago," he wrote on social media, mentioning the killing of nine individuals by a shooter aiming at people of foreign heritage in five years prior.
