The Baldur's Gate 3 Creators Unveil a New Divinity, Labeling it Their Largest RPG Yet

The buzz surrounding this year's gaming ceremony was significant, especially after host Geoff Keighley shared a mysterious image of a desert monolith. The question is finally answered. The acclaimed developer is creating a completely new Divinity game.

Revealed to be Divinity, the game was presented with a daring trailer packed with striking imagery, from a burning man to scenes of revelry and the very unleashing of hell.

A Different Direction

Anyone expecting Divinity Original Sin 3, prepare for a surprise. Larian clarified that a direct sequel to its beloved RPGs is not currently in development.

Nevertheless, the developer referred to this new Divinity as a next chapter of the core franchise. This choice of words implies that the team is likely building a real-time experience as opposed to another turn-based title. For now, it remains theory, as only a teaser video is available.

A Pillar of Modern RPGs

The Divinity series is highly rated and arguably it pioneered the recent resurgence of deep computer role-playing games. These games are celebrated for detailed worlds, branching plots, and deep class systems—elements that subsequently were perfected in games like Baldur's Gate 3.

While its world is traditional swords and sorcery, what truly sets Divinity apart is the immense freedom granted to the player.

While numerous modern RPGs have pared back options, Divinity is packed with niche playthroughs you can achieve by choosing a distinct build with a personal story.

The series is also famously flexible, allowing players to find creative solutions throughout the entire experience. Nearly every quest can be solved in a variety of manners, sometimes in unexpected fashion.

  • You might solve a puzzle because you recalled something a dog told you.
  • Or, you could defeat a foe by teleporting a glob of lava in a inventive way.

More to Come

It is this design philosophy that allow people to declare games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as one of the best role-playing games in history. Now, players can look forward to a new entry in this legendary franchise.
